Pax Telemanus

Pax th'Telemanus

Names & aliases

  • Canonical: Pax th'Telemanus
  • Family / House: House Telemanus — an Olympian-bred Gold lineage; the Telemanus genome carries deliberate height-and-mass enhancement beyond standard Gold

Role in the story

The cohort's literal Goliath. Mars cohort front-rank wall: when a gate needs ramming or a line needs anchoring, Pax is the answer. Joins Cassius and Darrow in the Tribal-War civil fight (chapter 25), heroically participates in House Mars's offensives across Part III, leads the front of the Diana assault (chapter 30) and the Apollo gate-strike (chapter 38). Whether Pax survives the back half of the novel is a matter of subtle reading across recap sources — some have him dying mid-Part-IV, some have him surviving to the closing ceremony. Treated below as a character who is present through the major Part III battles and may be on-frame at Olympus and Pluto; the chapter prompts will note an absence in any specific later-chapter that recap sources do not cite him in.

Personality / energy

A giant whose default emotion is delight. Loves the cohort, loves the fight, loves a song. Kind in private; earthquake in combat. The contrast that makes him work as a character is that the largest body in the year-war is wedded to the warmest temperament.

Physical description

Late teens but engineered far beyond Gold-bracketed proportions — described in the novel as roughly fourteen feet tall (Olympian-bred genome), iron-mountain frame, vast shoulders, a chest like a wall, hands the size of dinner plates. Pale Gold skin. Deep-amber Gold eyes, but small in the broad face. A short black beard, a thick mane of black or dark-bronze hair, a wide grin that splits the face. Voice that booms.

Outfit / clothing notes

Institute year (House Mars): custom-fitted Gold black scaled to his frame; the Mars wolf-and-spear at the breast; armored shoulder plates; a great belt; massive hobnailed boots. Combat: two-handed razor scaled to his hands; sometimes a war-hammer for gate work; battered House-Mars cloak. Closing ceremony: Telemanus House colors over Gold black — black-and-bronze.

Signature objects

  • A two-handed razor scaled for Olympian hands.
  • A war-hammer used at Diana and Apollo gates.
  • An over-sized Mars wolf-and-spear pendant at his breast.
  • A boomed laugh that the cohort treats as both signal and morale.

Visual motifs

  • A figure who must duck through Gold-cut doorways.
  • A two-handed razor catching firelight.
  • The hammer raised above a battered gate.
  • A grin so wide it threatens the rafters.
  • An Olympian silhouette at the head of a Mars charge.

Magic / power signature

None — Olympian-grade physical genome (a Society-engineered enhancement available only to specific Houses), close-combat power, anchoring presence.

Chapter appearances

18 (cohort introduction), 21–25 (Mars campaigns and Tribal War), 27 (House of Rage oath), 29 (Unity), 30 (House Diana — front of charge), 38 (Fall of Apollo — gate strike). Possibly present in 42–44; recap sources do not consistently confirm. Prompts will reflect this caveat.

Confidence level

High for description, role, and signature motifs (Pax's size and personality are universally cited); medium for late-novel survival status — recap sources differ.
